Food expert issues urgent warning to anyone who cooks bacon in an air fryer

--

An urgent warning has been issued to anyone who uses an air fryer to cook bacon. It comes as experts have deemed the cooking method dangerous.

It’s not good news for many as there’s nothing quite like a fresh bacon sandwich. However, it seems using an air fryer to cook it could be a risky move, reports the Mirror.

According to dietitian Brenda Peralta, bacon’s natural fatty state means that it can lead to accidents when it is cooked. Speaking to Yahoo, she said: “It is a fatty food, and when it is cooked in an air fryer, the fat can drip down and cause smoke or splatter. This can make the bacon difficult to cook evenly, and it can also produce a lot of smoke and odors.”

Air fryers can also become dangerous due to the build-up of bacon grease which leads to smoke. The bacon fat could splatter out across the air fryer’s heating element, causing the gadget to start smoking before a smell of burnt food fills the air.

Brenda warned: “A bacon strip is a small and delicate food, and it can be difficult to flip or remove from the air fryer basket without breaking it.”

Brenda is not the only one to issue a warning relating to air fryers and bacon. According to Candess Zona-Mendola, there is a risk the method could lead to potential food contamination.

Candess, editor of a food safety blog, warned that if you make food in a dirty air fryer and don’t clean “between uses” there are serious risks. She said those who do this could put themselves “at much higher risk of food contamination.”
