The aircraft attempted to make an emergency landing maneuver near the Santa Ana airport, but fell and struck a motorcyclist.
On Tuesday, May 1, it was confirmed that the injured man, José Danilo Uribe, died from the severity of his injuries. The pilot is still in hospital.
The machine was a private, ultralight, sport aviation aircraft. Due to a malfunction, the engine stopped after taking off from Santa Ana de Cartago airport.
The pilot was trying to make a controlled landing when the mechanical failure apparently occurred. The malfunction is believed to have prevented the plane from responding to the pilot’s commands, causing the crash.
“DIACC is investigating the causes of the accident of the GS-700 Magic aircraft, HJ332, which crashed in the vicinity of the Santa Ana de Cartago Airport”, stated the Technical Directorate for the Investigation of Civil Aviation Accidents, on X.
The incident, which happened a few meters from the airport runway, has raised many doubts in the local community and the family of the deceased motorcyclist, who are waiting for explanations amid the pain of losing their loved one.
