On Maundy Thursday, the pasturage is baked, with which the faithful will go to the sanctified, on Resurrection Night. Olga Ciobanu gathered the best ingredients to make a sweet Easter, as is the tradition in her family. The woman kneaded since morning and left the dough to rest, so that it would be fluffy and easy to work with.
OLGA CIOBANU, resident of Plop village, Dondușeni: “Flour, milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla sugar. It is a very good dough, you can see that it works well, it has fermented well. Don’t forget that I also added yeast. We take in each tray, considering that we make several pasturas, in each tray we put a top of the dough. As if the ass were in the pasture. Then I will braid around and make a crown for each one and a cross in the middle and the cheese.”
Even if the most important dishes on the Easter table are being prepared today, the housewife keeps a strict fast.
“On Maundy Thursday, according to tradition, the pasturage is made and the red eggs are made. This is a must today. Tomorrow at the church the air is removed. Tomorrow is a day, in which since I came to my in-laws’ house, I do not eat anything, nor drink water. This is the biggest fast we can do all year, until the air is out.”
He mixes the sweet cottage cheese with the egg and fills the pan to the brim.
“We make the cross out of grass, this is how we put it, we paint it so that it fits properly. Then we will fill it with cheese. We put the cheese, so that it is full of sweet pasca, with cheese, and there is only one thing left that we do, before we put it in the oven, we brush it with beaten egg, so that it also has a more beautiful appearance.”
