Princess Charlotte, the middle daughter of the Princes of Wales, turns 9 today. Kate Middleton and Prince William did exactly as Prince Louis did, posting the traditional anniversary photo on their official Instagram account.

The last few days have been busy for the Princes of Wales. After Kate and William celebrated their youngest son Prince Louis’ birthday on April 23, then marked their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29, today they’re celebrating their middle daughter, Princess Charlotte, who turned 9.

The tradition of releasing an official photo of their children on their birthdays has been a regular feature of their royal lives until now. Kensington Palace has been releasing photos of Kate for several years to mark birthdays and other family events. However, due to the scandal caused by the publication of the photo on Mother’s Day, which was found to have been edited, the Princes of Wales abandoned the tradition on the birthday of their son Louis and published the birthday photo directly on the official Instagram account. So, also on the occasion of Princess Charlotte’s birthday, the birthday photo was published only on social networks.
