Today, April 30, 2024, is the last day to submit candidacies for local elections in Romania. This date also marks the moment when the serial number on the ballots will be established for political parties, citizens’ organizations belonging to national minorities, political alliances and electoral alliances that have submitted lists of candidates, as well as for independent candidates.
In accordance with the Calendar of actions regarding the local and parliamentary elections of June 9, 2024, regulated by Government Decision no. 199/2024, the electoral process began on March 12, 2024, and the deadline for submitting and registering candidacies for the European Parliament elections was April 10, 2024.
Merged elections
The electoral campaign for the local and European parliamentary elections will start on May 10 and end on June 8, 2024, according to the information published on the website https://www.roaep.ro/ and gov.ro.
In 2024, Romania will hold four rounds of elections: European, local, parliamentary and presidential. By Emergency Ordinance no. 21/2024 of March 8, 2024, it was decided that the European parliamentary elections and local elections will take place on the same day, on June 9.
The Central Electoral Bureau published on the institution’s website the lists of candidates for the European parliamentary elections on April 11, 2024. According to the BEC, 15 political formations and seven independent candidates were registered.
Between April 16-25, electoral alliances for the local elections could be registered. On April 29, the candidacies for the elections for members from Romania in the European Parliament remained definitive.
In the context of the elections for the local public administration authorities in 2024, the deadlines for the request to grant airtime to public and private radio and television stations are set for April 30, 2024.
No later than 40 days before the date of the elections, i.e. April 30, 2024, airtime will be requested from the managements of public and private radio and television stations or, as the case may be, their territorial studios, during the elections for local public administration authorities.
When the election campaign starts and ends
On May 8, 2024, the candidacies for the elections for local public administration authorities in 2024 remain final. For both elections, by May 10, 2024, the MFA will make public the delimitation and numbering of each polling station in the country, as well as of their offices, as well as publicizing the delimitation and numbering of each polling station in the country, as well as their offices.
The electoral campaign will start on May 10 and end on June 8, 2024, at 7:00 a.m. On May 20 and May 25, the Autonomous Directorate “Monitorul Oficial” will print the ballots for the European parliamentary elections, respectively for the local elections. On June 9, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., the voting process will begin, for both ballots. Voting will end on the same day, at 10:00 p.m. Voters who are at the polling station at 10:00 p.m., as well as those queuing outside the polling station to enter the polling station, I can vote until 23.59 at the latest. After the counting of the votes and the resolution of any complaints or appeals, the election results for the two polls will be validated and published in the Official Monitor of Romania, Part I.
