Romania has almost the lowest energy price in the EU on Monday, claims the Ministry of Energy

The Ministry of Energy sent a statement on Monday, April 29, underlining that the current trading price puts Romania at the top of the ranking of states with the lowest prices for electricity with delivery. The average price on the spot markets was 55 euros for one Megawatt-hour, the cost being lower only in Sweden and Finland.

Almost half of the electricity was produced during the day by wind power plants or solar panels, according to the relevant ministry, quoted by News.ro.

“The 3 that make up my budget at the Ministry of Energy: investments, investments, investments. We often look at the energy model and prices in Spain or Portugal, and today Romania has cheaper electricity than in the two countries, thanks to the contribution of green energy to the national energy mix. We put 18 billion euros to work for investments in energy, through which we place Romania on the road to energy independence, with clean energy and at fair prices for households and the economy. Accelerating investments and having a well-defined strategy and actions, we managed to obtain Eurostat’s confirmation that Romania is in the top of the countries with the lowest prices paid by the population for electricity and natural gas,” said Minister Sebastian Burduja, according to the Ministry’s press release Energy.

The institution reminds that Eurostat recently published statistics on the prices paid for electricity and natural gas by domestic and non-domestic consumers within the European Union (EU). In the second half of 2023, Romania had the third lowest price paid by the population for natural gas and the fifth for electricity.
