On Monday, April 29, 2024, Romania has the lowest electricity price in the region and the third lowest in the European Union.

The prices for electricity for delivery on Monday, April 29, recorded on the SPOT markets in the member countries, place Romania among the countries with the lowest prices.

With almost half of the electricity coming from solar and wind sources during the day, the average price recorded in our country was 55 euros/MWh, lower prices being recorded only in Sweden and Finland.
“The 3 that make up my budget at the Ministry of Energy: investments, investments, investments. We often look at the energy model and prices in Spain or Portugal, and today Romania has cheaper electricity than in the two countries, thanks to the contribution of green energy to the national energy mix. We put 18 billion euros to work for investments in energy, through which we place Romania on the road to energy independence, with clean energy and at fair prices for households and the economy.

By accelerating investments and having a well-defined strategy and actions, we managed to obtain Eurostat’s confirmation that Romania is in the top of the countries with the lowest prices paid by the population for electricity and natural gas.” said the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

Eurostat recently published statistics on the prices paid for electricity and natural gas by household and non-household consumers in the European Union (EU). In the second half of 2023, Romania had the third lowest price paid by the population for natural gas and the fifth for electricity.
Also, on April 25, the Ministry of Energy launched two calls for projects from the Modernization Fund within Key Program no. 1 – Renewable energy sources and energy storage – Supporting investments in new production capacities of electricity produced from renewable sources for self-consumption, respectively Supporting investments in new production capacities of electricity produced from renewable sources for projects regarding companies and autonomous governments. The total budget allocated for the two calls is 815 million euros.
