I don’t hide at night in Germany

--

The incumbent mayor of Timisoara said on Monday that he will go to Bucharest to submit his file for obtaining Romanian citizenship before the local elections.

Dominic Fritz’s intention to run for a second term at the head of the Timișoara City Hall was attacked with three appeals. However, they were submitted before the application file was registered. Dominic Fritz declared on Monday, when submitting the candidacy documents to the Municipal Electoral Office, that they are not founded.

“There were already three appeals filed before I submitted my candidacy, which says something about the excitement surrounding this candidacy. The reasons why my candidacy is contested are not new, they are not surprising to anyone, they are based on theories such as that the law for local elections is not constitutional, on other conspiracy theories such as that I am a foreign agent and have no right to run.”said Dominic Fritz.

“The law is very clear, and the integration of Timisoara into the EU cannot be achieved only in pieces. We cannot on the one hand develop our city with European funds and enjoy our belonging to Europe and on the other hand question the rights of EU citizens. I think there is no doubt that I really, beyond any legal trickery that these challengers might come up with, I really live, I live in Timișoara and nothing else.”, Fritz also said.

The candidate of the United Timișoara Alliance at the Timișoara City Hall stated, in the context, that he had just obtained the permanent residence card. In addition, he will also submit the necessary documents to become a Romanian citizen.

“I can actually show you that it’s very fresh. My permanent residence card, 10 years old, with my address in Timișoara, arrived by post today. Otherwise, once again, the jurists can sit and debate. (…) That some people are stressed about this candidacy, that they want to create all kinds of stories that question the legitimacy of our candidacy is understandable because we have really shown in the last 4 years that we are not controlled, driven by anyone, we are fighting for justice, and that is precisely why the right of the people of Timisoara to choose cannot be limited.”, Dominic Fritz explained.

Fritz: “I’m from Timisoara”

The mayor of Timisoara also explained why he still does not have an identity card. “I live in Timisoara. As you can see I’m physically here, my house was also on TV, I’m not hiding at night in Germany. I think that anyone who has doubts that I could hide on the weekend or at night somewhere in a secret residence in Germany, needs a consultation not of a legal nature, but of another kind. I am from Timisoara, a proud Timisoara. I no longer have a German identity card. I still have an old passport which is a travel document, but which does not contain an address, I have a residence card and I am proud that Timisoara is written on it. Beyond these nuances of domicile and residence, they were also debated in 2020.”Fritz said.

“I have the complete file”Fritz also stated, referring to the documents required to obtain Romanian citizenship, “I will travel to Bucharest personally to submit this file, sometime after Easter, before the elections.”

About electoral files

The mayor of Timișoara repeated the statements according to which political opponents could use justice for electoral purposes, in the following period: “We’ll see, I know and Mr. Stancu said it too, that there are bigger people in Bucharest, each one has his own interests. We know very well this phrase, “I can buy you too”, that is, others were bought and we also know that, unfortunately, at the moment, PSD-PNL, this alliance, under the patronage of Mr. President, uses justice including for political purposes and not it would be a surprise to see such tactics here in Timișoara. My trust in the citizens is very high and I don’t think they will be manipulated by such tactics.”
