In a statement on Sunday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry called on all parties concerned to intensify their efforts to reach an agreement and end hostilities through political dialogue.
Signed in May 2023, the Jeddah Declaration was an important step towards resolving the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The declaration emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and safeguarding national interests. However, due to alleged violations by the RSF, progress stalled and negotiations reached an impasse.
Despite ceasefire agreements brokered by Saudi and US mediators, violence continues unabated, deepening the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), nearly four million people are displaced by the conflict, underscoring the urgent need for a peaceful solution.
The conflict erupted in April 2023 following disagreements between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo over the integration of the RSF into the army.
The ongoing hostilities have led to a devastating loss of life, with nearly 16,000 people killed and millions displaced, thus signaling the urgency of finding a sustainable solution to the crisis.
