A part of a street in the city of Slănic Prahova collapsed on Thursday, April 25, just 40-50 meters from the residential blocks. The local authorities alerted ISU Prahova and the Prefecture.

Prefect Emil Drăgănescu is on his way to Slănic to assess the situation and establish, together with the mayor of the city, an urgent plan of measures.

The incident took place right in front of the Police headquarters, for reasons that, most likely, have to do with the salt deposit on which the entire locality stands, writes prahovainfo.ro.

Mayor Costea Daneluș says that he has already verbally notified ISU Prahova and the Prefect’s Institution, and will also send written addresses about the land collapse that took place on Thursday morning. The mayor claims that it seems that there is a cave under the street, which led to the collapse.

The alarming thing is that the surging continues, new cracks have appeared, and everything is happening 40-50 meters from the apartment buildings.

“For now, in the current situation, we could not take measures, because we have no way of knowing what is underneath. We’ll see what the experts say. We have to take into account that salt has been mined in Slănic for 2000 years, and we only know what happened in the last 200 years. We still cannot know if we have to relocate families from the affected area. Regarding the water in Baia Baciului, the water has decreased over time, and we are monitoring the phenomenon”, declared the mayor Costea Daneluș.

The Prefect of Prahova County, Emil Drăgănescu, sent representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Prahova to the scene, to move to Slănic, to order the necessary measures.
