With this lack of information, but also driven by the low prices, customers buy the imported fruits, just to satisfy their appetite.

“The Romanian ones are better, automatically. But there is no money”said a customer.

“I was sure they were from Turkey, that they couldn’t be so cheap if they were from 22 lei, I saw Romanian ones”said another customer.

A kilogram of Romanian strawberries ends up costing 25 lei, almost as much as three and a half kilograms of imported strawberries. This is to the delight of traders who sell fruit from Greece or Turkey.

“It’s not like ours, Romanian, but it’s good that we think about the price, it’s not money”said Gabriel Marin, trader of imported fruits.

“We have our customers who have learned and who prefer to pay an extra penny and eat quality”said Oana, producer.

Romanians from Olt. I’m a patriot of my own kind and I can’t afford to buy Turkish ones. Even if those are 6.99 and these are 16 lei, we try to eat Romanian”said a customer.

In about two weeks, producers estimate that the price of Romanian strawberries will drop to 10 lei per kilogram, while imported fruits will not exceed 5 lei/kg.
