In the “DC Conducem” show on DC News, Titi Aur, specialist in defensive driving, talked about the importance of wearing seat belts when we are in cars and who bears the penalties if, for example, there are uninsured passengers in vehicle.
“When the policeman stops you (not if the seat belt is not on) he also fines the one on the right and, more recently, also those behind. Moreover, the law makes it very clear that everyone pays their own fine. The driver does not pay the fine for everyone, but everyone pays their fine if they did not wear a seat belt. Although the driver is the “captain” of the car – he must dictate and theoretically he should not leave the place if everyone is not wearing a seat belt – the fine is paid by each one separately”, said Titi Aur.

The specialist also gave the example of drivers in Germany who, if the passengers in the vehicle do not wear their seat belts, the car is not moved.
“In Germany this happens. If you get into a German’s car and don’t wear your seat belt, the German, out of politeness, won’t say: “Don’t wear your seat belt!”, but simply won’t leave the spot. It will wait! If you really don’t understand what it’s about, at some point he’ll say, he can’t wait a week until you put on your seat belt.
This happens somewhat diplomatically, politely. The German is waiting for you to put on your seat belt. They don’t force you, but they also don’t drive off without your seatbelt on. It doesn’t happen like that here, but the law says that everyone has to pay their fine,” Titi Aur said.
