Today, May 6, 2024, marks the 34th anniversary of the “Flower Bridge”. In 1990, between 13:00 and 19:00, there was no border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and the border could be crossed without documents. About 1,200,000 people attended the event.

That morning, from different corners of Moldova, thousands of coaches and private cars set off for Prut. The Chisinau-Ungheni train was full to the brim. In this context, eight crossing points were created along the 700 km border of the Prut River: Miorcani – Pererita, Stânca – Costesti, Iași – Sculeni, Ungheni – Pod Ungheni, Albita – Leușeni, Fălciu – Țiganca, Oancea – Cahul and Galaţi – Giurgiulesti.

The inhabitants of the towns on the banks of the Prut, dressed in festive clothes and with a lot of tricolor flags, arrived in columns towards their destination.

The poet Grigore Vieru participated in the action right in his native village, located on the banks of the Prut. He was the first to cross the Prut at that time, on a rubber boat, reports moldpres.md.

An official delegation from Moldova, which included, among others, Nicolae Costin, the mayor of Chisinau, Father Petru Buburuz, Vasile Nedelciuc and Mihai Ghimpu, deputies of the people, were guests of the municipality of Iași. They visited the Cultural Complex “Mihai Eminescu” in Grădina Copou, the Metropolis of Moldavia and Suceava, the Church of the Three Hierarchs, the Palace of Culture, other Iași historical and artistic monuments and toured the city.
