After last week’s talks in Sofia with his Bulgarian counterpart, Stoyanov, and European Commissioner Johansson on the full accession of Romania to the Schengen Area, today, in Budapest, Predoiu had a working meeting together with the Hungarian Minister of Internal Affairs, Sandor Pinter.
According to the Romanian official, Hungary will continue to support Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area, including land borders, in 2024.
“We have a well-established diplomatic plan that we will follow until we reach our goal. I also discussed with my Hungarian colleague measures to combat illegal migration, to strengthen border protection, to combat human trafficking and drug trafficking,” said the Minister of the Interior.
Cătălin Predoiu detailed that for this purpose the number of both border and judicial police officers will be increased, who will work in mixed teams with Hungarian colleagues to multiply efforts.
Also, measures to strengthen cooperation in the field of civil protection were discussed. He emphasized that their cooperation is excellent on all these lines and will continue in the same parameters. Predoiu mentioned that he had agreed with Minister Sándor Pinter to continue the meetings either in Bucharest or in Brussels, to ensure that everything they decided would be carried out.
