The Prahova police opened a criminal case for culpable homicide and culpable destruction in the case of the child who died today following a fire in a building on Mihai Eminescu street in Ploiesti.

“On April 23, at around 12:30 p.m., the policemen from Ploiești Police Department No. 4 were alerted to the fact that a house fire would take place on Eminescu Street in the municipality, as it is possible that a child based on the report, the police went to the scene, finding that the reports were confirmed, an 8-year-old minor was found in the building and resuscitation maneuvers were performed on him, but without result, being declared his death. In the case, investigations are being continued by the police under the aspect of committing the crimes of culpable homicide and culpable destruction,” a press release states.

At the same time, ISU Prahova discovered that the fire started from a lit candle.

According to neighbors and sources close to the investigation, the 8-year-old boy, who was paralyzed and therefore in a wheelchair, had been left alone in the house by his father, who had also forgotten a lighted candle. Although the windows were closed, so the draft that could have been produced in the room would not be a reason, the candle ignited the things in the room. The child was intoxicated by smoke and although resuscitation maneuvers were performed for 50 minutes, all efforts were futile and the doctors had to declare death.
