The first firefighters who arrived at the scene found that the fire was on the 12th floor of a 14-level apartment building, and the stairwell was flooded with smoke.
A person was found charred in the balcony of the home affected by the fire. Another 3 were evacuated from the upper floors as a precaution, but it was not necessary to transport them to the hospital.
Firefighters determined the likely cause of the fire to be a lit candle left unattended.
In the last 24 hours, at the national level, 1,470 interventions were registered, rescuers being requested to extinguish 78 fires, 1,176 cases of SMURD (1,170 for the provision of first medical aid and 6 rescue missions) and 216 other situations for the protection of communities , say IGSU representatives.
The number of interventions in which the personnel of the inspectorates for emergency situations participated registered a slight increase compared to the similar period last year, by approximately 7% (1,470 in 2024, compared to 1,371 interventions in 2023).
