ARO produced almost 400,000 vehicles in the factory in Câmpulung Muscel, in Argeș county, most of the production from the communist period being exported. The brand died out over the years, and a private industrial park appeared in place of the factory in Arges.
Candidate for the Argeș County Council, Radu Perianu explained to DC News TV what is happening in the area where ARO cars were once made and why it is a sensitive topic for the local administration.
What now stands on the site of the ARO factory
“Instead of the ARO factory, what is there now?” asked journalist Bogdan Chirieac.
“In place of the ARO factory is a private industrial park, but it does not rise to the level of industrial parks as I understand them. It also has a small problem, namely that on its territory there is a deposit of chemical waste, inherited, refreshed and so on, which has not yet been solved, although solving the problem existed as an obligation at the time of privatization.
It’s a whole story that also ended with convictions, but which is currently unresolved,” Perianu explained.
