MApN announces on Friday that elements of a possible drone have been found in Insula Mare a Braila.
“In the evening of March 28, 2024, fragments that seem to come from an aerial device (drone) were identified on an agricultural land in Insula Mare a Brailei. The Ministry of National Defense, together with specialized structures within the National Defense System, public order and national security, will conduct the investigation of the incident on Friday, March 29, 2024, according to the specific operational procedures,” the Ministry of Defense said.
The local publication Debraila.ro previously reported that on Thursday evening, at around 10:00 p.m., the Police were notified of the crash of a military drone in the field, in the Big Island of Brăilei, in the area of the Filipoiu farm, approximately 12 km distance from the ferry crossing.
The Police and the Gendarmerie have cordoned off the area, and the local authorities have specified that only the Ministry of National Defense is authorized to communicate on this subject.
Thursday evening, around 8:00 p.m., the alleged drone was filmed above the houses in the Grădina Mare area, close to the Danube.
“It was making a strange, loud sound,” said the person who filmed it.
A large-scale operation was taking place on Friday in Insula Mare a Braila. The Army, SRI, Police, Gendarmerie and ISU cordoned off the area. The crater formed by the drone has a diameter of approximately 4 meters, being extremely visible even from the air, according to Debraila.ro. The place where the drone crashed is located 8 km from the ferry crossing from the Brăila municipality towards the Big Island of Brăila.
