Elena Mateescu, director of the National Meteorological Administration, presented what the weather will be like on May 1 and Easter.
Present on the set of the show Descoperiți from Antena 3 CNN, Elena Mateescu explained the maps that show the evolution of the weather during the mini-holiday of May 1 and Easter.
“The probability is indicated that the temperature regime will be at normal values. This means values of 23°C in most of the country, but especially in the south-western part of the country. Of course, there will be great interest on the coast , at least for the day of May 1 and 2. And in the mountains, we don’t rule out periods of light showers, but the temperature will be between 15 and up end of the week 19°C with 14-15°C sea water temperature.
In the mountains, also possible local showers, but overall, generally nice weather. The temperature regime will stop somewhere at 16°C, the highest values in the west-southwest part of the country. We end April with 26-27°C and start May with values of 23°C.
After May 8, we have lower temperatures, precipitation will prevail in a large part of the country. Until then there will be local showers, possible especially on Thursday and Friday in the eastern half of the country, but which will not prevent us from carrying out our activity outdoors, because the temperatures are generous, we are already talking about temperatures above 20-23°C .

ANM weather forecast for the week of 29.04.2024 – 06.05.2024
We are already seeing that the week that includes the mini-holiday and including the Easter holiday period, a week warmer than usual and we are seeing positive temperature deviations of two to 2.5° across the country.
Certainly in the coastal area the average temperatures will stop at 18, 19° on the coast and the highest in the west-northwest part will be 25°C, following as in the south somewhere at 23-24°. For short periods we are talking about showers in the mountain areas.

On May 6-13, it is possible to rain throughout the country. It is good to rain, because the eastern half is affected by drought and it is very important that during this period we talk about precipitation and that it is stored in the soil. We are talking about temperatures of 22-22°C, we take a deviation depending on the region where we are.
ANM weather forecast for the week of 13.05.2024 – 20.05.2024
There are no changes. We are already seeing a slight warming, just one degree, deviation above what we are recording, but as we move towards the second half of May, temperatures are already gaining 2-3° more and it is possible to record values above 25- 26° at the maximum level. Again a threshold above what would mean a summer day with a slight tendency to excess, especially in the north, but also locally in the southern part of the country.
Although the month of May is the richest month in precipitation of the spring season, we are still talking about the possibility that in the conditions in which we also record increases in temperature, we are talking in particular about torrential precipitation and showers because the heating from the second part of May already leads us to summer and then the convective phenomena begin to appear.
ANM weather forecast for the week of 20.05.2024- 27.05.2024
The current year is breaking records set in previous years. We notice that even the last week of May keeps the trend of increasing temperatures on average and a slight excess in the southern half. We will definitely have over 25°C and rain only in the southern half of the country.

We recorded amounts of precipitation after the second half of April, the water reserve in the soil on the 100 cm profile still remains deficient in large areas of Moldova, in Muntenia, Dobrogea, Oltenia, a sign that the precipitation of the other week is welcome, in the conditions in which it is in great need of water and even if we have also had intervals with lower temperatures. What is significant, April will certainly remain in the top three warmest April months, because we have had 2 weeks since meteorological measurements are taken. We have approached the threshold of a heatwave day 34°C, a colder period has come, the end of April will keep this month in the top three warmest months”, said Elena Mateescu, director of the ANM, on Antena 3 CNN .
