The overpass in Craiova will be rehabilitated this year

The overpass in the center of Craiova will be rehabilitated during this year. The municipality of Craiova has recently tendered the contract for the execution of the works.

The works will cost approximately 345,000 euros

In recent years, the overpass in Craiova has deteriorated quite a lot, especially the asphalt poured along the tramway. The pillars of the passage also suffered, and now the Craiova City Hall has managed, after a rather long delay, to auction the execution contract for the rehabilitation of the Nicolae Titulescu Passage. The value now estimated by the municipality for these works amounts to approximately 345,000 euros.

“Execution works of the investment objective “Rehabilitation of overpass Km 0 – Passage “Nicolae Titulescu” are being purchased. An overpass was built on Calea București Boulevard for car and tram traffic. It was aimed at decongesting traffic in the central area, reducing travel time and road safety, as well as bringing the existing road transport infrastructure to the level of optimal operating parameters. The positive effect foreseen by achieving the investment objective: – ensuring traffic safety, – increasing the comfort of motor vehicles, – increasing traffic safety, – improving traffic and circulation conditions; – maintaining and carrying out snow removal works in safe conditions during winter; – the access of emergency intervention crews (rescue, firemen, police) will be easier in case of necessity. The estimated value of the execution works, according to the updated general estimate of the investment approved by HCL no. 457/31.08.2023, is 1,723,102.90 lei (excluding VAT), being composed of: – expenses for the basic investment: 1,703,102.90 lei (excluding VAT); – site organization expenses: 20,000 lei (excl. VAT). The estimated value of the contract does not include miscellaneous and unforeseen expenses. They can be accessed as the case may be, according to needs, under the conditions provided for in art. 221 of Law no. 98/2016, with subsequent amendments and additions”, the mayor’s office specified in the documentation.

Rehabilitation of the passage, between delays and price increases

The rehabilitation of the passage has been discussed since 2022. The city hall had initially allocated one million lei for these works, over time all kinds of changes have taken place. After the first budget allocation, the city hall withdrew the project. Then he returned to these works and increased the budget he wanted to allocate. That’s how we reached a sum of approximately 1,550,000 lei, without VAT. And now, the estimated amount in the final contract put up for auction is 1,723,102 lei, without VAT.

What work will be done on the overpass and when will it be completed

According to the documentation published by Craiova City Hall, works will be carried out on the passage to install paraseismic devices, indicators will be installed, markings will be redone, works will take place on the expansion joints of the passage, it will be completely repainted and reasphalt. In the documentation from the contract, it is specified that the Nicolae Titulescu Passage is curved, with the roadway part made of asphalt. The length of the road bridge is 545 meters, and the total area of ​​the overpass is 9,800 square meters.

All the works that will take place at the level of the passage in the center of Craiova will have to be executed within a period of four months, from the date of the order to start the works. According to the specifications, the guarantee of the works is at least 36 months from the date of reception of the works. Craiova City Hall is now waiting for companies interested in carrying out these works and which are able to meet all the requirements imposed by the municipality. The deadline by which offers can be submitted is May 27.

Then, the town hall allocated a period of one month, until June 25, to evaluate the offers in order to be able to make a decision regarding the company that will qualify to carry out the works. Most likely, within a maximum of one month after the completion of the evaluation procedures and the designation of the winning company, the order to start the works will be given. This means that sometime in November of this year, the Nicolae Titulescu Passage in Craiova should have a different face, and traffic should be in much better conditions.
