Prices in Romania will increase significantly before Easter/What the INS announced – the National Ziarul

Data were obtained from specialists, regarding the trends in the evolution of economic activity in the period March-May 2024.

It happens at the end of March and with only a few weeks remaining, practically, until the Orthodox Easter Holidays, which many Romanians are thinking about now, at least estimating the expenses they will make for the Easter meal, and fearing that many products will become even more expensive before the beginning of May.

Many would like to put lamb meat, Easter and cozonac on the table, as well as fresh, seasonal vegetables. But I don’t know to what extent they can afford to have a full meal at Easter.

What managers estimate

What does the latest data from the specialists look like?

Managers estimate an increase in construction activity, a relative stability of the number of employees in the manufacturing industry, construction and services, as well as the increase in prices in the manufacturing industry, construction and retail trade, until May, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

“The short-term balance indicates the perception of business managers on the dynamics of a phenomenon that should NOT be confused with the rate of increase or decrease of any statistical indicator produced by the INS.

The percentage conjunctural balance is obtained as the difference between the percentage of managers who chose the positive version of the phenomenon and the percentage of those who indicated the negative version”, the INS transmits on Thursday, March 28.

Manufacturing industry

What do the estimates look like regarding the situation in the manufacturing industry? “As part of the economic situation survey from March 2024, managers in the manufacturing industry predict for the next three months, a moderate increase in the volume of production (economic balance +9%).

Regarding the number of employees, relative stability is estimated, the short-term balance being 0%.

For the prices of industrial products, an increase is forecast in the next three months (short-term balance +17%), according to the data presented by the INS.

construction

Increases in the prices of construction works are expected.

“According to the estimates of March 2024, an increase in the volume of production will be recorded in the construction activity for the next three months (short-term balance +19%).
Managers estimate relative stability in the number of employees (short-term balance +5%).

Regarding the prices of construction works, their increase is expected (current balance +32 %)”, according to the INS.

Retail

What are managers’ estimates in the retail sector?

“In the retail sector, the managers have estimated for the next three months, a moderate growth trend in economic activity (short-term balance +13%). The volume of orders addressed to suppliers of goods by commercial units will register a moderate increase (short-term balance +12%).

Employers forecast for the next three months, an increase in the number of employees (short-term balance +18%).

The managers of commercial companies estimate an increase in retail prices (short-term balance +26%), according to the mentioned source.

Services

According to estimates from March 2024, “demand for services (turnover) will register moderate growth in the next three months (current balance +8%). Relative stability of the number of employees is estimated (short-term balance +4%).

According to the managers’ opinion, the sales or billing prices of the services will have a moderate growth trend (short-term balance +13%)”, it is specified from the INS level.
