ChatGPT currently allows its subscribers to upload files to the chatbot and ask questions based on the data provided. But what if a user’s data is stored on cloud services such as Google Drive or OneDrive? The short answer is that the user must download that data and then manually enter it into ChatGPT. However, the new update from OpenAI for ChatGPT is about to solve this problem.

The legit_rumors account on X discovered a so-called Context Connector feature for ChatGPT that allows users to connect the chatbot to their Google Drive, OneDrive Personal, and OneDrive Business accounts. This way, ChatGPT can get the data directly from these services, eliminating the need for users to manually download the data and then input it into the chatbot.

Although the Context Connector is not yet available to the public, user TestingCatalog on X managed to access the feature and get it working. As you can see in the screenshots below, tapping the paperclip icon in the ChatGPT search bar opens two options for users, either adding files from Google Drive or uploading from PC.

Selecting Google Drive opens a browser that then allows you to choose files. ChatGPT’s Context Connector supports Google Drive, OneDrive and Office 365. However, more cloud services may be added to the supported list later.

The screenshots also suggest that users can manage the status of connected apps in ChatGPT. In addition, the spotter says that traces of Notion integration were also found in the code, but it seems that the developers of ChatGPT left the source code incomplete.

The new feature is still under development and we don’t know exactly when it will be released. In the meantime, it remains to be seen if the Context Connector will be available to all ChatGPT users or if it will be added as an additional benefit for paying subscribers.
