REVIEW Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Edition

--

In the previous material, we told you about the series of watches and bracelets from Huawei, devices for those who want to monitor their health and fitness as well. I used to say that Watch Ultimate is the most expensive zone, for adventurers, but today we have Watch 4 Pro Space Edition, practically the second luxury zone. What I like about the Watch 4 Pro is the fact that it’s a design that looks good on the hand, it’s very similar to luxury watches, and the materials it’s made of are very durable.

The Space Edition continues the Watch 4 Pro line that we introduced last year in June, but with a slightly modified design and some additional technical features.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro design

Compared to the regular Watch 4 Pro, the Space Edition comes with a more refined and non-obscene design. It combines titanium, its natural colors with a red color, a rotating crown with red elements and a button on the edge. I had a titanium bracelet, and the whole look is luxurious.

The 1.5-inch screen completes the watch, which has a nanocrystalline ceramic bezel around it. The tricky and slightly geeky part here is that it’s apparently very hard to paint titanium, but Huawei has added red elements to this watch. The basic idea is to inspire a space rocket engine. If you want to go into further details, the two layers have been joined at the molecular level so that it does not look like a painted piece, but a piece that is incorporated into the material and does not scratch in the long term.

Additionally, the standard screen design, i.e. that Watch Face, is called Laval and has notes inspired by space travel. Otherwise, the watch is made of titanium over which a DLC – Diamond Like Carbon layer has been placed, which makes it more resistant to scratches.

The screen is made of sapphire crystal glass, also for durability. The dimensions of the watch are 49.1 mm by 49.1 mm and a thickness of 12.9 mm. It’s not necessarily a feminine watch, but it’s not huge. Its weight is 65 grams which I found more than decent. Compared to the standard Watch 4 Pro, we also don’t have that smaller size of 46 millimeters. Overall, the watch is a little bigger and feels more luxurious than the standard watch.

The screen is a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED as I said, and the resolution is 466 pixels by 466 pixels, with a density of 310 pixels per inch. I personally had no problem in the sun with this watch, it looked perfect and I wore it as a personal watch for several days.

I personally really liked this combination of titanium and red, because it makes the watch stand out. If you have a Watch 4 Pro I don’t recommend it, but if you’re looking for a smartwatch that can be worn in a diverse environment, then I’d always go for the Space Edition.

Health and fitness monitoring

This time I won’t dwell so much on fitness and health metrics, but I will send you to the Fit 3 review because they come with the same improved features i.e. Health Overview 2.0 with better sensors on this side for measuring 9 indicators including arrhythmia i.e. Huawei TruSeen 5.5+. The difference with the Fit 3 is that the accuracy is improved for this model on the part of pulse monitoring, skin temperature, ECG analysis and sleep data.

Also, on the fitness area you have the same artificial intelligence incorporations to help you from time to time with a reminder or with sports assistance and you have incorporated countless sports activities that you can follow.

On this side, I would also mention the fact that the watch is resistant to 5 atmospheres of pressure, that means 30 meters underwater. Where it is not recommended, but I have not tested this, is in the area of scuba diving and depths of more than 30 meters, where you already go into the area of the Huawei Watch Ultimate.

I’ll come to the same conclusions as the Fit 3 – the monitoring is quality, you can measure a larger compendium of physiological data, the sleep monitoring is quality and comes very close to data from other devices, and it’s not even horribly uncomfortable to wear the night. In the area of health and fitness sensors, Huawei does a very good job.

Technical specifications

How does it differ from the Watch 4 Pro? We are also talking about a watch that incorporates an eSIM, so you can also use it for calls, it connects Bluetooth to headphones, supports NFC, but Huawei Wallet is not yet available in Romania.

You can store music on the watch, and the processor is a trouble-free one – the watch didn’t heat up, even when I opened Petal Maps for example, and it ran very smoothly, as you’d expect. The battery life didn’t disappoint me either for a watch of this level – we’re talking about 4-5 days depending on the watch face you choose. If you want, you also have the Ultra long Battery LIfe mode for over 10 days of autonomy, but which reduces certain monitoring. Charging is fast, in about 80 minutes I had it at 100% without any problem.

At the software level, the watch is controlled from the rotating crown and the button on the right side, and the touchscreen part works as it should. The control point is the Huawei Health app, and a number of Watch Faces have been added to this area to match the space theme of the Watch 4 Pro.

Standard comes with the Laval Watch Face which looks like a rocket engine and on which you can see your steps and calories burned. This Watch Face is exclusive to this model. The center also shows you your battery level graphically – if you have an orange flame then the clock is over 70%, and between 30 and 70% the flame turns blue with red, like when a rocket module is getting ready to launch separate.

You also have a Watch Face called the Star Explorer that includes the 12 astrological constellations for field enthusiasts. Thus, you can customize this Watch Face according to your zodiac sign and the constellations are shown on the screen.

Beyond these, you have 40,000 watch faces available in the Huawei store. It connects to Huawei, Android and iPhone without any problems.

Price and conclusion

The watch benefits from a special offer between May 7 and 21 on the Huawei Store. Thus, it costs 3,300 lei and comes with a pair of Huawei FreeBuds 5i headphones as a gift. It’s a competitive price, especially since the standard Watch 4 Pro series costs 2,700 lei today.

If you don’t have a Watch 4 Pro, I recommend the Space Edition. It suits those who want to wear it with a t-shirt, but also those who want to match it with a suit. It’s not an all-out adventure watch, meaning you don’t climb Everest or go scuba diving with it, but you can run, cycle, get an overview of your health.

It’s a very masculine watch from my point of view and it gives off the spirit of a more expensive watch than it is. The titanium it is made of, in combination with a matching bracelet made of the same material, is a very good proposition. And the design even if very little modified, I like it.

What would I choose between the Fit 3 and the Watch 4 Pro Space Edition? If it wasn’t for a money constraint and a big cost difference between them, then the Space Edition just because I felt better with it in my hand and felt like I could always use it. But there’s something for everyone – if you’re more into lifestyle, the Fit 3 is a more youthful and cool proposition, the Watch 4 Pro Space Edition is the more serious and spacey proposition.
