Part of the Galaxy AI collection of technologies, Battery AI should add another 10% to the Galaxy S25’s battery life, without Samsung doing anything extra in terms of increasing the actual capacity of the installed batteries.

We have already learned that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will come with the same 5000 mAh battery unchanged from the Galaxy S21 Ultra generation, with Samsung thus trying to limit component costs as much as possible. Now we also learn how Samsung hopes to make up for this shortcoming.

According to information obtained on Galaxy S25 sources, the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra will benefit from the “magic” called Battery AI, an innovation that should increase the autonomy of the devices by up to 10% by using artificial intelligence technologies to optimize energy consumption. It is certain that even the current Galaxy S24 series is not bad at all when it comes to firmware optimization, the autonomy offered is generally superior to the competition, compared to the capacity of the installed battery. But from here the question also arises, how much more can Samsung “extend” the autonomy by resorting only to software fireworks?

For example, we recently learned that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the chipset that will equip at least some variants of the Galaxy S25, needs at least 5500 mAh battery capacity to really spread its wings, offering optimal performance without the autonomy having too much suffered. And the recommendation sent to device manufacturers would come directly from the manufacturer Qualcomm, a sign that there is not much room to play with the reduced efficiency of the new chipset. Coincidence or not, going from 5000mAh to 5500mAh is a flat +10% difference, which Samsung hopes to make up for through brute force AI-governed efficiency.

At the moment, apart from the name used, we don’t know anything else about Battery AI. According to the rumors, Battery AI will take care of selective elimination of non-essential processes launched by applications, while grouping essential tasks such as email synchronization and instant messaging applications according to priority criteria, established based on the pattern of device usage. Another area where Battery AI could have a major impact is the intelligent optimization of hardware performance. Again, this is speculation, but it’s plausible that Battery AI will customize CPU and GPU operating frequencies for each individual application. For example, if you spend most of your time communicating through a messaging app with a minimalist interface Battery AI will only allocate CPU cores optimized for efficiency to the app and disable advanced GPU acceleration features.

As good as it sounds, we can’t help but notice that Samsung relies more and more on software optimizations to extend the autonomy of devices. And this is a complication that can also have unwanted consequences, according to the example already observed at the time of the launch of the iPhone 15 generation, whose users ran into inexplicable problems with phones overheating and battery draining in the most mundane situations, such as simply using of the Instagram application.
