Japanese company Nintendo announced on Tuesday that the first official information about the long-awaited successor to its more than seven-year-old Switch console will be announced by the end of March 2025, according to the AFP agency.
“We will make an announcement regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch this fiscal year,” which ends on March 31, 2025, company president Shuntaro Furukawa wrote on the social network X. However, he tempered expectations, adding that a press release regarding Nintendo’s upcoming games in June will make “no mention” of the new console.
Also on Tuesday Nintendo announced a record net profit for the financial year ended at the end of March, but was extremely cautious in its new profit forecasts.
In 2023/24, the Japanese video game pioneer saw its net profit rise 13% to ¥490.6 billion (€2.9 billion), helped by the yen’s depreciation, which boosted its overseas sales.
For 2024/25, however, it expects a net profit of just 300 billion yen, which would represent a drop of almost 40% from the previous year.
