HUAWEI took us by surprise last week when it suddenly announced the launch of the Pura 70 series of phones, this on the 12th anniversary of the debut of the P series. It’s time for something new, for a new start, and for HUAWEI that means and reducing reliance on US-made components. We’re learning something interesting today, and we’ve got the details below.

As the title of this post says, 90% of the components inside the Huawei Pura 70 series of phones are of Chinese origin, including the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Pro+ models. The discovery was made by those from Formalhaut Techno Solution due to a dissection/teardown process, 90% of the components belonging to Chinese suppliers.

Here is the list of Chinese suppliers:

  • OFILM
  • HNLens Technology
  • Goertek
  • Sunny Optical
  • BOE
  • Goodix Technology
  • Crystal Optoelectronics

The Chinese press also reported that Chinese companies can now produce many smartphone components without the help of foreign equipment. The only chapters where there are obstacles are the processor and photo sensors, but HUAWEI is working with partners to solve this problem as well.

The exception to the above claim of 90% Chinese-sourced components does not apply to the Ultra model in the lineup that brings a Sony camera. There are estimates that the company’s flagships will register shipments of at least 50 million units by the end of the year.
