Qualcomm recently announced the launch of its new Snapdragon X Plus platform for laptops, promising outstanding performance, extended battery life and advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. This platform integrates a 10-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) offering 45 TOPS, which positions it as the world’s fastest laptop NPU.
However, the launch of this technology was not without controversy, after Charlie Demerjian from the publication SemiAccurate accused the company of manipulating the benchmark results for the new series of chips, especially for the Snapdragon X Plus/Elite.
Demerjian’s article states that the results presented to media and partners cannot be replicated using standard settings, based on information from two major OEMs and an internal source within Qualcomm.

The report also points to an alleged lack of transparency on Qualcomm’s part, accusing the company of failing to provide promised detailed technical presentations ahead of the launch. This deals a serious image blow to Qualcomm, which could suffer significant consequences if the allegations prove true.
On the other hand, there is the possibility that the allegations are unfounded, in which case the tensions could be dismissed as mere rumour. However, the history of the tech industry has shown that such data manipulation scandals are not uncommon, often driven by pressure to perform well in front of investors and the market.
If it is confirmed that Qualcomm has exaggerated the performance of the Snapdragon X Plus, this could be an effort to rival Apple’s M3 processors in an attempt to give Windows users an experience comparable to that offered by MacBooks in terms of power and autonomy.
