Google is preparing to launch a new Chromecast 4K with Google TV. The current model of the Android streaming dongle was released in 2020, so this update is long overdue.

According to 9to5Google’s sources, the launch of the new Chromecast 4K is imminent. That means we could see the device launched during the Google I/O 2024 conference, which starts on May 14.

The new Chromecast should keep the same price of $49.99 as the 2020 model currently on the market. However, it could come with a new and more capable remote.

The publication does not provide details about the new remote, but a video found in the Android 14 Beta last year showed us a remote similar to the one included in the package of the current Google Chromecast, but with more buttons. One of the newly added buttons appears to be a star-shaped or “magic button” that users could customize to open a favorite app or change the image source.

Also, the new Chromecast 4K with Google TV could be powered by a newer chipset, possibly the Amlogic S905X5 that was announced last year. The 6nm processor would be more efficient than the 12nm Amlogic S905X3 chip on the current Chromecast model.

There are no details on the other specifications of the upcoming device, but hopefully Google will pack it with more storage and more RAM this time around.
