The tech billionaire, writing on the platform formerly known as Twitter, said all accounts with more than 2,500 verified followers will be able to access features that typically cost $8 a month.
Premium features include the ability to edit and write longer messages, as well as reduce the number of ads the user sees. Also, the account holder gets a blue checkmark next to their display name.
Premium and Premium+ – the latter of which costs $16 (£12.60) a month – give users access to Grok, an artificial intelligence model that is meant to “answer almost anything”, according to its website.
The decisions come after the company denied reports that the number of people connecting to X has plummeted since Musk took over.

Global daily users of the X mobile app fell to 174 million in February, down 15 percent from a year earlier, according to research by data firm Sensor Tower.
X’s own figures also suggest a decline from November 2022, Sky News’ US partner NBC News reported.
The company said earlier this month that it had 250 million daily active users — down from the 258 million claimed by Musk when he took over the company.
