The couple formed by Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas broke up after a year of relationship, the break being announced by the Spaniard on social networks. “Nothing bad happened, it’s just life,” she philosophized.

Paula Badosa, 26, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, 25, are no longer together, the former WTA number 2 announced last Sunday, then developed after the successful victory in the first round of the tournament in Rome, 6-2, 6-3 with 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva.

The two had made their relationship public almost a year ago, during Roland Garros, through a joint Spotify account. Immediately, they reached the general attention, one that they also maintained through a joint Instagram account, Tsitsidosa, where they periodically published images and clips of the two of them.

Then, last Sunday, Paula wrote a message on Instastory, announcing the breakup: “After careful consideration and after sharing fond moments together, Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways.

We have had a journey full of love and learning, and now, as friends with immense mutual respect, we have chosen to move forward on our own paths.

We are grateful for the support of friends, families, everyone who has been part of our history. We are transitioning into new chapters of our lives, continuing to wish each other well in what lies ahead“.

After his win with Andreeva, Badosa spoke more about his relationship with the three-time Monte Carlo champion and how the split came to be.

When we were feeling great, the relationship was great too“, reflected Badosa in the press conference in Rome. “Other times, we have our own careers, our own habits, and then it’s better to go our own way,” she added.

It reminds me a lot of the story of Maria and Grigor, when you meet the right person, but maybe at the wrong time. Things are like this“, said the Spaniard, referring to the relationship between Sharapova and Dimitrov, which ended in 2014 with a breakup after two years together.

“It’s not easy, starting a relationship that has become so public. You have to close it somehow in the same way”, she explained why she chose social networks to communicate the breakup.

Paula Badosa: “No one knows what will happen in the future”

We have an amazing connection between us. He’s a great guy, I wish him the best. I know it’s the same from him. I have so much support from everyone, my family, team, friends. I also feel for him from his family and team.

They all supported us. After all, nothing bad happened, it’s just life. I know we will still see each other on the circuit and no one knows what will happen in the future”, concluded Paula.

She has had a tough time with injuries, which included a stress fracture in her spine last year. She is now feeling well, pain-free, two months after her first cortisone injection.

In the second round in Rome, she will meet American Emma Navarro, the 21st seed. Stefanos, seeded 6, awaits her second round opponent in the Jan-Lennard Struff – Pedro Cachin match.
