West Ham is to appoint a new coach, after deciding to quit David Moyes (61 years old) at the end of the current season.

The chosen one of the “Knocks” is Julen Lopetegui, a technician with an impressive resume, but who does not have a good reputation among microbiologists at all.

On Monday, Sky Sports announced that West Ham and the 57-year-old manager had reached an agreement in principle and the Spaniard will be named on the bench as long as nothing unforeseen happens.

But at the end of last week, with rumors about Lopetegui already circulating in the press, West Ham fans started an online petition, entitled “West Ham, say ‘no’ to Lopetegui”.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham’s bosses will heed the wishes of the fans, as they appear to have done at AC Milan. Last month, Milanese supporters made a petitionand then nothing was heard about Lopetegui’s version at San Siro.

Julen Lopetegui’s CV

The Spaniard began his career as an assistant at Rayo Vallecano, then was promoted to head coach in 2003. After 6 years, he moved to Real Madrid, first as head of scouting, then as second team coach.

After spells with Spain’s U19, U20 and U21 national teams, Lopetegui spent a year and a half at Porto before taking over his country’s senior national side in 2016.

Lopetegui only stayed on the “La Furia Roja” bench for two years, because Real Madrid convinced him to take over the big team. It turned out to be a total failure, and the coach lasted only 14 games before being fired.

About three more years followed at Sevilla, and in the autumn of 2022 he took over for the first time a team from England, Wolverhampton. Last summer, however, Lopetegui was dismissed by “Wolves”two days before the start of the season.
