Simona Halep, winner at WTA Rome in 2020 and finalist in 2017 and 2018, was ignored by the Italian organizers regarding the wild cards granted for the main draw, at the WTA 1000 tournament that will start next week at “Foro Italico”.
Thus, in the first phase, 6 of the 8 “invitations” available on the women’s table were announced, all addressed to players from Italy.
For the other two positions, it was speculated that the wild-cards could go to top players who do not have the necessary ranking, such as Simona Halep, Emma Răducanu or Caroline Wozniacki.
However, as promised, the Italians did not change their minds, awarding the wild cards to the winners of a pre-qualification draw with tennis players from the Boot, Vittoria Paganetti and Federica Di Sarra.
Thus, for Simona Halep, the option remains to take part between May 13-19 at a WTA 125 tournament in Paris, where she already received the necessary wild-card.
