World Snooker Championship: History was written in 2024! Nothing like this has happened at the Crucible for 47 years

The favorites have fallen on their heads since the beginning of the competition, yesterday being eliminated all the players who theoretically started with the first chance in the quarters. Judd Trump had a poor performance against Jak Jones, going down 13-9, Stephen Maguire lost to David Gilbert and Kyren Wilson got past John Higgins (13-8).

Wilson remained, moreover, the only seed who will play in the semifinals. The other three semi-finalists all came from the qualifiers, something unheard of at the World Championship since 1977, that is 47 years ago.

Interestingly, that edition was the very first to be contested at the Crucible. Just like now, then, 3 players coming from the qualifiers reached the semi-finals stage:
John Pullman, Dennis Taylor and Cliff Thorburn.

The only seed left on the board at that time managed to win the trophy after a finalp with Cliff Thorburn. John Spencer wins his third world title, and if history repeats itself, then we should see Kyren Wilson as champion in 2024.

Mark Allen officially becomes the world number 1 for next season for the first time in his career, even if he did not make it past the round of 16. How is that possible? Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump had points to defend to remain in the lead. Both were bound to win the competition, but as they were eliminated in the quarter-finals, this will no longer be possible. It should be noted that in snooker, the world ranking is calculated according to the results of the last two seasons.

The winners of the first two games and the winners of the last two matches will meet in the semifinals. David Gilbert and Kyren Wilson open the ball with the first session of the game from 15:00, while Jak Jones and Stuart Bingham enter the arena from 21:00.
