Nenad Zimonjic is the perfect coach for Novak Djokovic, says Goran Ivanisevic

Without a title won in 2024 (he stopped in the semifinals at the Australian Open and in the third round at Indian Wells), Nole ended his collaboration with Ivanisevic, who helped him break record after record on the ATP circuit.

A week away, in an interview with SportKlub, the Croatian coach announced that Djokovic is now working with Nenad Zimonjic (former ATP doubles leader) and the two will be together at the Monte Carlo Masters (April 7-14).

It remains to be seen whether Zimonjic will be able to convince Djokovic that he deserves to become his “full time” coach.

”I don’t know how long Novak will play yet, it depends on him, but I think now he is with the perfect person at the moment – Ziki (Nenad Zimonjic – no). He is my good friend, we have been through a lot together and I love him.

He is a great tennis expert, but the most important thing in this whole story is that he knows Novak. He doesn’t need to get a new coach until he gets to know him first, he (Novak) would be ‘fussy’ for the first ten days and that coach wouldn’t understand what’s going on.

My theory is that a Balkan can train anyone, but only a person from this area can train a Balkan. Marian Vajda is Slovak, but we are close, while Boris (Becker -nr) worked very well with him, being a very intelligent person in tennis. It helped him a lot.

Ziki and I heard each other, we talked even before I found out that Novak invited him to train, I think Ziki is perfect for Novak. It can also help him in tennis, Novak knows everything, but maybe he will tell him the same thing in a different way, a different approach, which will be refreshing for Novak. Ziki knows Nole’s mentality, they were together in the Davis Cup team, Ziki was also the captain” – Goran Ivanisevicin an interview for Saša Ozmo (SportKlub).

In 2024, Novak Djokovic has 8 wins, 3 losses and has not won any ATP tournament.

Who is Nenad Zimonjic

Aged 47, Nenad Zimonjic was the leader of the ATP doubles ranking and won 54 titles in this event (91 finals), including three Grand Slams: Wimbledon (2008, 2009) and Roland Garros (2010) ).

He prevailed in doubles and at the Tournament of Champions (2008, 2010), and in mixed doubles he won five major titles: Australian Open (2004, 2008), Roland Garros (2006, 2010) and Wimbledon (2014).

In 2010 he won the Davis Cup with the Serbian team, which also included Novak Djokovic.
