Every morning, first thing in the morning, Eurosport.ro makes a short press review, to give you the most interesting and fresh information in sports.

1. Jaqueline Cristian, comeback sensation with Madison Keys

After her success against Sachia Vickery in the opening round, Jaqueline Cristian met another representative of the United States in the second round in Charleston, a tournament that brings a lot of quality players to the start, including 3 ATP top 10 athletes (Pegula, Jabeur and Sakkari). In front of the Romanian was Madison Keys, last year’s semi-finalist at the US Open and an athlete who has collected 5 major tournament semifinals and a Grand Slam final (Flushing Meadows 2017) in her impressive career.

Despite a hesitant start, Jaqueline Cristian played a big game, managing to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the end of two hours and 4 minutes of play. After losing the inaugural leg, the WTA ranked 83rd athlete did not give the 8th favorite any chance, controlling the game with authority.

It must be said that Madison Keys (18 WTA) served excellently, hitting 8 aces, but in the moments of pressure it was “JC” who stood out, managing the important points perfectly. Thus, the Romanian ticked off one of the victories of her career, after in the last two years she achieved other great successes (with Rybakina, Kasatkina or Sloane Stephens).

In the round of 16, Cristian will play against another sportswoman from overseas, waiting for her opponent in the Navarro-Volynets duel. Head of series 10, Emma is in great shape and leaves the favorite, the billionaire from the WTA coming after the quarters at Indian Wells (where she passed Sabalenka) and the eighth in Miami.

On 83 WTA, Cristian is guaranteed the 77th position at the end of the Charleston tournament, but he can advance, as long as he reaches the upper stages of the competition. The best position of the career (58 WTA, in January 2022) is not far away.

2. Anca Todoni, the first success of her career at a WTA 250 tournament

After playing one of the longest matches in history last week, getting past Sorribes Tormo, an excellent clay player, in Luis Potosi (Mexico), Anca Todoni (19, 217 WTA) continues her outstanding form. The Romanian scored her first success at a WTA 250 tournament, in Bogota, after eliminating the Italian Stefanini (147 WTA), score 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

To reach the main draw at the Colombian tournament, Todoni played two qualifying rounds, which she won without any problems, and tonight she once again displayed high-quality tennis in front of a higher-ranked athlete, a specialist in slag.

In the second round, Anca will meet Camila Osorio, the host’s favorite, ranked 85th WTA. The South American is seeded 6 in Bogota and passed the Canadian Stakusic in the first round, score 6-4, 6-2. She is a specialist on the red surface, ticking off optimals in Rome last year, after eliminating two seeds along the way.

With the victory in Bogota, Anca Todoni is guaranteed to enter the WTA top 200 for the first time, as she will occupy at least the 190th place in the world next Monday.

3. Filip Jianu, in eighth at Barletta, after his 16th victory in a row

Filip Cristian Jianu qualified, on Tuesday, in the round of 16 of the challenger tournament in Barletta (Italy), endowed with total prizes of 74,825 euros, after defeating the Italian Stefano Travaglia, the fifth favorite, with 3-6, 6 -3, 6-0.

Jianu (22 years old, 293 ATP) won after one hour and 52 minutes. The success achieved against Travaglia (32 years old, 195 ATP) was the 16th in a row for Jianu, who came after three consecutive ITF titles, two in Kish Island (Iran) and one in Antalya.

In the round of 16, Jianu will meet the Czech Zdenek Kolar (27 years old, 229 ATP).

In another match of the first round, Marius Copil (33 years old, 355 ATP) was defeated by Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (31 years old, 159 ATP), the second favorite, 6-2, 6-4. Dzumhur is now 4-1 in head-to-head matches with Copil.

Jianu secured a check for 1,200 euros and 6 ATP points, and Copil will receive 745 euros.
