FRF and official UEFA reaction: Hungarians have no right to use the symbol of “Greater Hungary”

The Romanian Football Federation announces on its official website that it has requested an official point of view from UEFA, and the European forum specified that it will not authorize any kind of symbol of “Greater Hungary” at the matches of the Hungarian national team.

FRF says UEFA did not give right to use ‘Greater Hungary’ symbol

“The FRF has asked the forum in Nyon for the official opinion on the announcement of the Hungarian Football Federation.

As a result of the response received from UEFA, we make the following clarifications:

• UEFA has not authorized and will not authorize the display of the symbols mentioned by the Hungarian Football Federation at matches organized at European level.

• We believe that the Hungarian Football Federation was wrong to make that announcement as the display of these symbols represents a deviation from the provisions of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (messages with provocative and/or political content), and the FRF will certainly notify the disciplinary commissions, if necessary.

The Romanian Football Federation reminds that revisionism is not accepted in football and trusts the UEFA disciplinary commissions that they will sanction the display of this symbol with the potential to incite hatred and violence at matches in European competitions”, it is stated in FRF press release.

We remind you that on Tuesday, March 21, the Hungarian Football Federation stated that it has UEFA’s approval to use the historical symbol of “Greater Hungary” at national matches.
