Florin Zalomir, former world fencing champion, was found dead in his house. SOURCES: He committed suicide out of jealousy

A 41-year-old gendarme from Otopeni, former world fencing champion, ended his days on Monday morning. A firearm was also found near him.

It is about saber Florin Zalomir, who won silver at the 2012 Olympic Games, gold at the 2009 World Championship, gold at the 2006 European Championship.

He was an officer in the Gendarmerie of the Capital, and at the most recent psychological evaluation he had been declared fit.

Sources close to the investigation told PRO TV News that Zalomir committed suicide out of jealousy, with his personal weapon.

“Today, October 3, at around 8:34, the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate was notified by a woman, regarding the fact that, in a building in the town of Otopeni, a man died in his home”, sent IPJ Ilfov.

Otopeni police officers went to the scene to carry out activities within their competence. The medical team that arrived at the scene declared the death of the former athlete’s man.

The forensic doctor from the Ilfov Forensic Medicine Service was notified for carrying out activities within his competence.

“With deep regret, we confirm the tragic news of the death of our colleague, who was found breathless this morning in his home. We regret his loss and extend our condolences to the bereaved family. The gendarme was an officer in the General Directorate of Gendarmes of the Municipality of Bucharest and was 41 years old. At the most recent psychological evaluation, he was declared fit. The circumstances in which the event occurred are to be elucidated by the competent institutions. May God forgive him!”, the Gendarmerie said.

The case will be taken over by the police officers of the Ilfov Criminal Investigation Service for carrying out activities within their competence, establishing with accuracy the factual and legal situation and taking the necessary legal measures.

Also, at the level of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie, internal checks on what happened were ordered, as a matter of urgency, and the results will be made available to the competent bodies.
