A former religion teacher from Craiova says she was left with a bitter taste after attending the Resurrection service. He chose to go to the Saint Dumitru Cathedral in the city center where thousands of people were gathered. Discreetly, the woman listened to what the Christians were discussing as they waited to take Light.

Maria Simion is 82 years old and taught religion in several schools in Mehedinți. After he retired, he chose to move to Craiova, to be with his children. The woman tells that every year she goes to the Saint Dumitru Cathedral on the night of the Resurrection. This year he arrived at the church later.

I could no longer reach the front to be able to take light directly from the parent. I stayed somewhere in the back and listened to the service. But, unfortunately, I couldn’t really listen. Next to me were two ladies discussing what they had cooked. They argued loudly about whether or not you should put peas in boeuf salad. Slowly, I moved elsewhere“, says Maria Simion.

I ended up next to another group. There were women and men, discussing the party the day after Easter. Who should bring the carcass, who the meat, at a given time“, says the pensioner.

Maria Simion came up with the idea to discreetly approach several groups to see if anyone is talking about the moment they are living.

A parent shocked me. I was left with a bitter taste when I reached this gentleman who had come with his wife and child. At one point, the gentleman tells his son to sneak to the front to get light faster. He was tired of standing. The child did not want to. In the next second, the father grabbed his hand and pushed him forward, not caring about those in front of him. “Your child care, move, I’m stepping on your feet here”… I crossed myself when I heard what he said… And I was shocked that no one, absolutely no one reacted, not even the child’s mother“, Maria Simion also told. The woman watched the little one as he got lost in the crowd.

I do not generalize, but many, many people do not know why they come to church on Easter night. I didn’t even see them pray. I think more than half of those present were on their phones. In the end I got some light from some young people. I asked them why they came to church. One of them told me that he came to pray because he was going to take an exam, and another said that he came to thank God that his family is healthy. These young people gave me hope that all is not lost“, concluded the former religion teacher.
