Starfield has come and “gone” from online video game discourse. What promised to be the biggest and best game from Bethesda, the famous studio that brought us games like the Elder Scrolls series or Fallout 3 and 4, turned out to be just “Skyrim in space”, with many limitations and many unfinished items for release. However, it seems that the studio is not going to abandon this title, even though it has not been a hit with critics and fans since its release, and continues to add new elements and improve the gameplay through updates and DLCs. Bethesda has just officially confirmed when we’ll be getting the game’s first expansion, Shattered Space, which will add new quests that will expand the main storyline, as well as many other side elements.
The Starfield story will be expanded this fall with the Shattered Space DLC
We already knew from last year that everyone who bought the Starfield Collector’s Edition would also get access to the Shattered Space DLC, the game’s “first” official expansion. That wording also suggests that there are more to come, but even those who spent a few hundred dollars on the game at launch will need to purchase the following separately.
Todd Howard, who is responsible for directing and producing the game, recently gave an interview to YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games, where he revealed that Shattered Space will be released sometime this fall. That means this first DLC comes a year after the game’s official release on Xbox and PC consoles. But he didn’t give too many details about the direction in which Shattered Space will go and what it will add. Those who have played games like Obilivion, Skyrim or the Fallout 3 and 4 titles in the past probably know what to expect in terms of expansions from Bethesda.
Howard also revealed that, before this expansion, Bethesda is preparing a free update for Starfield. It will focus on improving the shuttle editor, a much-criticized component by fans of the game. Even with the limitations that exist today, gamers have been able to create some impressive shuttles using the components available in the game, but many of the best results have been achieved with the help of mods created by the community.
