Calendula flowers have been known since ancient times for their beneficial properties in the case of some forms of cancer and even in contemporary medicine where they are found in the composition of some modern products used in the fight against cancer.
For therapeutic purposes, the flowers are used, which are picked when the sun is shining, when the plant is open and emits volatile oils.

Composition
Calendula flowers contain saponosides, mucilages, carotenoids (approx. 3.5%), triterpene alcohols, flavonoids and flavonic glycosides, sterols, tannins, volatile oil (approx. 0.02%), bitter substances, traces of oil volatile (oxygenated sesquiterpenes), vitamin C, malic acid, mineral salts and protein substances.

Harvesting flowers
Marigolds are annual plants that bloom from May to September. The flowers are harvested without tails when they are fully developed. Harvesting marigolds is done 4-5 days in a row, after the dew rises and until the evening. It dries in thin layers, in the shade[[

Therapeutic actions
Calendula has anti-inflammatory, decongestant, antiseptic, antimicrobial, immunostimulant, cicatrizing action, speeds up healing and tissue regeneration, regulates menstrual cycles, carminative, regulates biliary function through bitter principles.

Therapeutic indications
Calendulas are indicated in ulcers, eczema, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, inflammation of the colon, cholecystitis, hepato-biliary diseases, hemorrhoids, menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhea, mycosis, vaginitis, urinary infections, cystitis, cancer.

Administration
The infusion is prepared from 2 teaspoons of dried flower tip to a cup of boiling water, let it infuse for 3-5 minutes and consume 2-3 cups a day, before meals.

The tincture is prepared from fresh flowers placed in a bottle over which 60-degree alcohol is poured, left to macerate in the sun for two weeks, strained and stored in dark, hermetically sealed containers; 30 drops are administered 3 times a day, to regulate the menstrual cycle, treat gastro-duodenal ulcers.
The decoction is prepared from two spoons of dry plant to 1 liter of water, leave to macerate in cold water for 24 hours, then strain and boil the maceration in a liter of water for 10 minutes, strain and mix the two extracts and are administered both internally and externally, gargle (canker sores, stomatitis, gingivitis, pharyngitis), sitz baths, external compresses (healing ulcers, eschars, abscesses, pustules, fissures, frostbite), washes, enemas.
The plant powder is obtained by grinding the dried flowers, from which a teaspoon of the plant is administered on an empty stomach 3-4 times a day for the anti-inflammatory, scarring effect (it is stored in well-closed containers for a maximum of 10 days, due to the volatile oils that evaporates quickly).
Calendula-based ointment can be used successfully in various dermatological diseases or for skin maintenance.
