The United States hopes that Washington’s recent decision to send long-range missiles to Ukraine will encourage Germany to do the same, something Berlin has so far ruled out, a US official said on Thursday.

Washington confirmed on Wednesday that it sent long-range ATACMS missiles to Kiev this month, capable of a range of up to 300 km.

Before the United States, France and the United Kingdom supplied Kiev with long-range Scalp and Storm Shadow missiles, which can reach a distance of up to about 250 kilometers.

“Regarding the Taurus … it’s a decision for Germany,” a senior US defense official said on Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity, when asked about a possible delivery by Berlin of long-range Taurus missiles. German made action.

“But of course with the US provision of ATACMS, as well as the previous decisions by the UK and France to provide long-range missiles, we hope that will play a role,” he said.

Kiev has been urging Germany for months to supply it with Taurus cruise missiles, which can reach up to 500 km, to counter the Russian offensive. However, Berlin has refused until now, fearing an escalation of the conflict. (Agerpress)
