Xiaomi is preparing to launch a new truly “tough” smartwatch. It seems that the Black Shark sub-brand, responsible until recently exclusively for gaming equipment, is now becoming a brand that Xiaomi uses to test various technologies in the wearables area. Last week we saw the Black Shark smart ring, and now we have the first information about the Black Shark GS3, a smartwatch with a “rugged” design.

Black Shark GS3 has increased resistance to shocks, water, dust and weather

The watch was not officially presented, but only revealed, with no clear details about the hardware and software that will underpin the user experience. We don’t even know how much it will cost, but since it’s a Black Shark product, the price will probably be competitive, despite the specifications. However, the company promises 21 days of autonomy on this model, a 1.43″ AMOLED screen and an integrated GPS module for monitoring outdoor sports activities.

What makes the Black Shark GS3 special, however, is the MIL-STD810G certification, which ensures resistance in many extreme conditions of use. It falls under 15 resistance protocols, including for use in very high or very low temperature environments, but also for resistance to mechanical shock, water, dust or high vibration environments.

In terms of design, the Black Shark Watch GS3 doesn’t break from the mold of previous models like the S1 Pro and S1 Classic, so it’s likely to benefit from many of the advantages of those models.

The Black Shark GS3 watch could be announced very soon, at least for the Chinese market. Black Shark products usually also reach Europe, and prices are generally lower than those of brands considered “premium”. With a smart ring and a durable smartwatch on offer, Black Shark seems to be starting to position itself as a wearables brand, not just a “gaming” one. This change is probably also due to the fact that gaming phones do not even seem to be on the top of the list of preferences of those who play a lot on the phone.
