Mourning in the skydiving world

Also this year, in May, an experienced military parachutist, aged 38, lost his life during an exercise at the Aerodrome in Boboc, Buzau.

The accident occurred during the landing maneuvers, MApN informs.

Captain Cosmin Constantin Scortea, from the 71st Câmpia Turzii Air Base, lost his life on Wednesday, May 25, following an accident that occurred during a parachuting exercise at the Aerodrome in Boboc. The Military Prosecutor’s Office was notified to establish the circumstances of the accident. Also, according to legal procedures, the Air Force Chief of Staff ordered the establishment of an internal commission of inquiry“, the Ministry of National Defense sent at the time.

Captain Cosmin Constantin Scorțea was employed in the Ministry of National Defense since 2007, he had 67 active jumps. He was married and had a child.

Two days after this tragic accident, a 21-year-old man from Târgu Mureș arrived at the hospital in extremely serious condition, after he jumped with a parachute, and it did not open completely. The boy is a member of the city flying club.

There were ten other student paratroopers in the plane from which the young man jumped. They jumped from the aircraft in sets of four. Civil Aviation Safety Investigation and Analysis Authority inspectors are to investigate the causes that led to the horrifying accident.

It can happen that the main parachute does not open due to drafts, a fault in the wings and then it starts to flutter or partially open. The classic way is to release or detach the main parachute and open the safety parachute. Failure to do so risks the safety parachute wrapping around the main parachute”, points out Radu Adrian Crăciun, veteran parachutist at the Aeroclub of Romania.
