May 9 has a historical significance for our country as it marks the Day of Proclamation of State Independence.

It is celebrated every year on May 9 Europe day, dedicated to peace and unity on the continent. The same date has a historical significance for our country, as it marks State Independence Proclamation Day.

In the message sent on Europe Day, President Klaus Iohannis claims that Europeans want to live in free societies, with a functioning democratic state, and maintaining peace is the challenge of the moment.

For his part, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated that, after joining the Union, Romania benefited from over 64 billion euros from European funds, money it received in addition to the total amount it contributed to the EU budget.

In an intervention at RRA, Iulia Matei, ambassador and permanent representative of Romania to the European Union, pointed out that unity is the key to a strong Europe.

“If we look back a little, and especially in recent years, we can see that together we have achieved a series of results that we probably would have considered much more difficult to achieve, but also impossible. And here I am primarily thinking of the fact that the Union has become a stronger geopolitical actor. We have proven, first of all, that we are a reliable partner for Ukraine, in the context of the current Russian aggression, but also by taking these essential historical decisions related to the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine, with the Republic of Moldova. We granted transit status to Georgia. Then, in the same logic, I think all these crises made us aware of the fact that it is very important to adapt to European policies in order to understand that European action must be as coherent and united as possible”. emphasized Iulia Matei.

The Arc de Triomphe in Bucharest will be illuminated in blue tonight, starting at 20:00, to mark Europe Day, and the Flag of the European Union will be projected on the facade of the Palace of Parliament./editor Florin Lepadatu/
