The May 2 accident: Lawyer Cuculis says that Vlad Pascu’s defense asked for “the account in which to make the payment”

The lawyer of the families of the victims in the case of the accident in the town of 2 Mai, Adrian Cuculis, stated, on Thursday, that the “defense” of Vlad Pascu requested, during the meeting at the Mangalia Court, “the account in which to make the payment”, at which time the two parties entered into a “dispute”.

“As long as you wake up close, and I say almost the last term because we, all of us, agreed that these conclusions on the merits of the case should be made, should be made in a separate meeting, so the safest a new trial term will be established, but after we hear the witnesses, (…) and, as I said, at almost the last term of the trial, Vlad Pascu’s defense comes and asks us for the account in which to make the payment, at which point I must have asked if it was about the payment of all the claimed damages and that was the point at which of course we entered into a dispute. I can’t necessarily call it a dialogue, even a dispute, because we remember that this attempt was made before with the mediation because, probably, we suspected, that an attempt was being made to reduce the punishment limits already obtained”. said Cuculis, in a telephone interview with Antena 3.

He showed that he does not want to comment on the behavior of the judge in the file, but he related a moment that produced “noise” in the courtroom.

“I would rather comment on the fact that some difficult moments happened for both families, including those who survived the accident. (…) And we have another situation, namely when they were asked if those who were in that group, including the victims, were going to the place where they were injured… I think there was noise in the whole hall, nobody understood what did he mean… What do you mean if they were going to that place? As if in front of that military unit there was, I know, a place where they were supposed to meet… Some things that seem to come out of sci-fi movies, but forget that they happened!” said the lawyer of the victims’ families.

He specified that, at this moment, the father of Sebastian, the young man who died in the accident on May 2, is being questioned.

In October 2023, Vlad Pascu was sent to court, under preventive arrest, for committing the crimes of culpable homicide, culpable bodily harm, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances and leaving the scene of the accident.

“The defendant was charged that, in the morning of 19.08.2023, he drove a vehicle on public roads, under the influence of psychoactive substances, and, upon entering the town of 2 Mai, hit a group of people who were walking on the side of the road . As a result of the impact, the named OAS (21 years old) and DRM (20 years old) died, as well as the bodily injury of the named BDD (18 years old), CVA (20 years old) and ICI (20 years old). It is also noted that, after the accident, the defendant left the scene of the accident”, the prosecutors reported at that time.
