New development projects are on the way, in Borhanci. The first works have begun on the Olympic Swimming Pool, a project worth 22 million euros.

Mayor Emil Boc presented, on Thursday, in the field, on the occasion of the opening of the construction site, the details of the future swimming pool within the educational Hub in the Borhanci district.

In fact, in mid-April, the mayor of Cluj Emil Boc announced a series of projects aimed at the development of the Borhanci neighborhood for which building permits were signed.

“Today, a new history begins in this neighborhood: work is started, in the field, on the investment objectives that are being made here, in Borhanci.

Work begins on the Borhanci Swimming Pool. In the next period, the works will continue for the other objectives, such as the nursery, kindergarten, school, gymnasium, high school, gym and park. These are the 6 big investments we are running and which are in an advanced phase.

In parallel, the utility works have started. The access road will be a new one, which will connect with Borhanci street”, said the mayor Emil Boc, in the presence of the vice-mayors Dan Tarcea and Olah Emese, MEP Daniel Buda, as well as the builder.

“The money for this investment, the 22 million euros for this goal, is Cluj’s money. But through the European funds obtained for other projects, with a total of 420 million euros, we managed to make money available to finance these projects in the Borhanci neighborhood”, explained Emil Boc.

It is the first competitive pool built with local funds, which will give the people of Cluj the chance to do sports, through mass swimming. This will make Cluj a swimming center in Romania, according to the project assumed by the authorities.

“Also, what the Multipurpose Hall is for competitive sports competitions, this Olympic pool will be for national and European level competitions. It will introduce Cluj into an elite world swimming circuit. Part of the infrastructure used for the Olympic pool in Borhanci is what is used today in Paris for the Olympic Games, i.e. state-of-the-art technology”, added Emil Boc.

The deadline is 18 months, so the pool will be open to the public in the spring of 2026, according to City Hall representatives.

New facilities in the Borhanci district

Olympic swimming pool – 22 million euros
The contract for the construction of the swimming pool in Borhanci was signed in March 2023 with the association MBS Group SRL (leader), ASA CONS Romania SRL (associate), POLIART SRL (associate).

The new swimming pool is part of a larger project by Cluj-Napoca City Hall to create an educational HUB, which includes a nursery, kindergarten, middle school, high school, a forest-park area, sports base and related streets.
The project in the Borhanci district envisages the construction of a 3-level building with an indoor swimming pool, capacity for 1000 spectators and areas dedicated to swimming sports competitions. Thus, they include: Olympic swimming pool, Olympic diving pool, bleachers area for spectators, leisure areas, initiation pool, saunas, jacuzzi, changing rooms and administrative area.

Kindergarten in Borhanci – 3.5 million euros
Capacity of 160 places (8 groups of 20 children each),

Secondary School – 10 million euros.
It will include 27 classrooms of 25 students/class and a total capacity of 674 students. The school will have 3 science and computer labs, and a gym.

High school with gym – 7.3 million euros.
12 classrooms for 300 students.
The project was submitted for funding through the European “Green Schools” program.
