Vernissage “Nicolae Grigorescu. “Anniversary Exhibition” takes place on May 14, at the Arad Art Museum, and marks the Nicolae Grigorescu National Day, celebrated annually on May 15. “Tărăncuțe (From the fountain)” is the central piece of the exhibition, announces the organizer Art Safari.

Considered a national symbol and a pioneer of Romanian modern painting, Nicolae Grigorescu is honored through this exhibition, which brings to the foreground lesser-known masterpieces, mostly found in private collections. Among the exhibited reference works are “Peasant (From the Fountain)”, “Morning, After the Rain”, “Gypsy’s Head”, “Homecoming”, “Peasant with Fork”, “Green Ball Gown” etc. ., each reflecting the genius and sensitivity of Grigorescu.

“Peasant (From the fountain)”, the central piece of the exhibition, is an essential work that is part of a cycle of variations on the same theme of “Returning from the spring”, a theme addressed by Grigorescu throughout his creation. This work, a market record, is an absolute masterpiece of the artist.

Grigorescu was a complete and complex artist, with a vast creation, with an impact at the European level. His works transcend national borders, contributing to the affirmation of Romanian art on the international scene. The exhibition will be an opportunity to discover lesser-known aspects of Grigorescu’s creation, such as his nude studies in the landscape, inspired by the tradition of the Barbizon School, or the works created by the artist during his time in Rome, which are of particular importance in his artistic evolution.

The carts with oxen, the scales, the faces of girls, the shepherds, the grove, the birches and birches, the peasants are the Romanian emblems that Grigorescu transposed in his paintings. Art Safari presents this impressive artistic heritage through works from private collections, but also from the Brukenthal National Museum and the Constanta Art Museum.
