Dismal statistics! In the period 2024-2060, Vaslui county will register a population decrease of 37.32%

The demographic perspective of Vaslui county for the next decades is extremely bleak. On the pessimistic version, in the period 2024-2060, Vaslui county will register a population decrease of 37.32%. Census data – 2021 round shows that the resident population of Vaslui county is 374,700 people.

According to an analysis carried out by HotNews journalists, “statisticians made an anticipation of the fertility level, life expectancy at birth and the long-term migratory balance (for at least 12 months) at the level of each county. By summing up the projected resident population obtained for each county, the projected resident population of Romania until the year 2060 was established”.

The National Institute of Statistics works with three scenarios: optimistic, medium and pessimistic.

For example, at the national level, in the optimistic version, for the year 2060, the design result is 16.3 million inhabitants, in the average version, in the year 2060, a resident population of 13.8 million inhabitants, and in the pessimistic version, 12, 5 million inhabitants.

On the pessimistic version, in the period 2024-2060, Vaslui county will register a population decrease of 37.32%.

The data of the Population and Housing Census – 2021 round show that the resident population of Vaslui County is 374,700 people, down by 20,799 inhabitants compared to the previous census (October 2011).

The majority of the resident population lives in the countryside, i.e. 219,762 people (representing 58.7%). Of the total resident population, the male population is 187,891 (representing 50.1%) From the point of view of the size of the resident population, Vaslui county ranks 24th in the hierarchy of counties.

“The towns that won the largest number of inhabitants between the two censuses are the municipality of Vaslui – which has a population of 63,035 people (with 7,628 people more than in 2011) – the municipality of Muntenii deJos with a resident population of 4,090 people (with 506 people more than in 2011) and Zorleni commune with a resident population of 8,804 people (209 people more than in 2011)”state the representatives of the Vaslui County Statistics Directorate.

In the previous census, the smallest administrative-territorial unit was the commune of Bogdănița with 1,437 people, which, moreover, in the 2021 census recorded a decrease, reaching 1,292 inhabitants.

In this latest census, the smallest commune in the county is the commune of Blagești with 1,178 inhabitants (down from the RPL – 2011 data, when 1,515 people were reviewed here). Currently, the largest commune in the county is Zorleni commune, which increased compared to the 2011 RPL by 209 people, maintaining this leading position in both censuses. The town of Murgeni is the smallest in Vaslui county (6,853 inhabitants compared to 7,119 inhabitants in 2011).
