The former Zonal Military Center building on boulevard 21 Decembrie in Cluj-Napoca is changing both its appearance and function.

Deputy Mayor Dan Tarcea states that until now the building had a military role, but in the future cultural events will be organized here:

In 1853, the first construction with the function of a barracks appeared, in 1877 two plots of land were joined and the barracks expanded.

In the year 1900, the site functions as the residence of the infantry number 51, and after the 2nd world war, the barracks of the hunter regiment number three operate here.

This building became the property of the town hall in 2009 and since then we have been thinking about what function to give to this building and we want to create a cultural center in that area.

Vice-Mayor Dan Tarcea shows that, with the modernization of the building, the spaces that are set up here will allow the development of various cultural actions:

From there we will do restoration work, consolidation work and sustainable capitalization, and we propose that at the end there will be more multifunctional, exhibition spaces for various cultural and information events.

dthere will also be rooms for educational and artistic activities, creative studios and there will also be spaces for the organization of cultural events and the promotion of heritage.

The works at the Cluj Cultural Center will last another year and a half, where, says Dan Tarcea, most of the money invested comes from European funds:

The total area is 2,458 square meters, there we will invest 39 million lei.

The works started in June 2023 and have a completion date of 2025, in the 2nd half.

The roof is currently being worked on and it will be an exceptional piece of work, especially as the basement is extremely impressive, over 5.5 meters high with a vault, so it will be an extremely easy area for cultural activities of all kinds.

The development of the Cluj Cultural Center is only the first part of the general project, which also provides that, on the land behind the building, a hotel or an office building will also be built, which will also have a parking lot in the basement.

So far, the project has been put up for auction three times, but no investors have been interested in this work.

The city hall is going to rethink the form of association in such a way that the construction is attractive, after which it will organize a new auction for the work.
