Police officers from the Crime Analysis and Prevention Department of the Teleorman County Police Inspectorate carry out activities in the campaign to prevent computer fraud, which have online investments in shares / cryptocurrencies as their mode of operation. In the last period of time, there has been an increase in notifications regarding the commission of fraudulent crimes in the online environment, which are based on the illegitimate use of the images of well-known personalities and utility distribution companies, through which users are induced mistakenly, through posts or advertisements on social networks, to invest in stocks or cryptocurrencies and earn amounts of money several times higher than the initial investment. In fact, criminals invite the public to click on certain links that lead users to a page where they are asked to fill in personal data and make a deposit. The site also posts fake testimonials from winners who are happy to have invested in shares advertised as fabulously profitable.
To increase public confidence in fake ads, several public figures, whose image has been edited using artificial intelligence editing programs / applications, “recommend” buying these profitable shares.
Recommendations of the Teleorman policemen:
• Do not follow the announcements about making investments, buying shares, cryptocurrencies, which are present on social networks!
• Do not proceed with the installation of applications that give a third party remote access to your personal smartphone!
• Do not install, on the recommendation of third parties, applications that offer the possibility of making capital investments!
• Check the veracity of the data presented: as a rule, Romanian banking entities and established companies do not post investment announcements on social networks!
• If you have any suspicions about these ads, notify the Police immediately!
